Ceilidh Workshops for Schools in Scotland, the UK and Internationally

Bringing Traditional Music to Life for Young People

Dancing Feet Ceilidh Band deliver engaging, high-energy ceilidh workshops for schools across Scotland, the UK, and internationally, including France. Our programmes are designed to support both the Curriculum for Excellence in Scotland and international education frameworks. Using Scottish traditional music, dance, and song, we create meaningful, active, and culturally rich learning experiences.

"Two wonderful Scottish musicians were able to get our students on board from the very first minutes with their energy and humour. A genuine moment of sharing, both simple and authentic, that was instrumental in the students' language and cultural discovery." Ludivine Planeix, english teacher Collége Willy Mabrut, Bourg-Lastic

"We have been working with Kate and Roddy for 3 years. They intervene in our school for our students from 6 to 10 years old. Their workshops, of very high quality, allow the children to fully immerse themselves in Scottish culture with dynamism and poetry. The sessions are always adapted to the age of the children, with a mixture of dances, songs and cultural discovery. Each year, Kate and Roddy have been able to vary their interventions and we wait for them with great impatience and desire."

Sabine REBEIX, Principal,  Ecole Gustave ROGHI - VOLVIC

Live Traditional Music & Instrument Demonstrations

Roddy Johnston of Dancing Feet Ceilidh Band playing the bagpipes

We introduce traditional instruments such as fiddle, flute, and bagpipes, helping learners understand how music is created and performed.

As well as performing, we explain how the instruments work and how we play them.

"These two talented musicians have an educational approach that makes their performance a real pleasure for young and old alike"

Mathieu SÉRANGE, Directeur
Ecole Primaire de Moulet- Marcenat

We teach age-appropriate Scottish songs in an interactive and engaging way.

Learners will:

  • Join in simple songs and choruses

  • Develop listening and pronunciation skills

  • Explore storytelling through music

  • Build confidence performing together

These activities support literacy and language development, including listening, talking, and understanding rhythm and phrasing in language.

“Kate and Roddy from Dancing Feet have been coming to our school for over 10 years to do half-day music and dancing workshops for our French-English bilingual primary school classes.

It is a great opportunity for the International Bilingual School in Baillargues, France, to connect every school year with the authenticity, creativity and professionalism that Dancing Feet can offer. The children adore these workshops and are excited to have Kate and Roddy back every year to experience more about English-speaking culture and participate in a different artistic approach to learning a language.”

Helen Thirtle-Léotard, Head of the Language Department, Ecole Privée Bilingue Internationale,  Baillargues
